Patient portal showing patient chart information (i.e. their chart info in clinical doesn't show up in the patient portal, the patient portal only has the patient business information), it would be great if it could include both.

Unfortunately at this point this is no longer a want but a need based on recent legislation with the cures act. Patient information, including notes, labs, and personal health records, fundamentally enhances healthcare delivery by ensuring transparency, fostering patient engagement, and promoting informed decision-making. With the implementation of the 21st Century Cures Act, barriers to accessing electronic health information have been significantly reduced, enabling patients to access their health data promptly and without undue burden. This shift not only empowers patients to take an active role in their healthcare journey but also facilitates a more collaborative patient-provider relationship, leading to improved health outcomes and a more efficient healthcare system overall. Without a patient portal I fear this EMR may be infringing on a patients right to access their data unfettered and without delay therefore ignoring federal laws.

Patients need access to as much of their chart as possible. This is more comprehensive need than just seeing test results. Part of enabling patients to have more ownership of their health, is helping patients own and direct their care through their information (or chart). Self-scheduling and texting is great. . .but they ALSO need to be able to do other things like view results, interact with their results, set their own health goals and track progress, change pharmacies, request refills, upload their own medical documents, submit updated histories including surgical histories, and create their own HPI templates but submitted more detailed information prior to their visits via prompts to make it concise (think buttons to click and small places to comment). This is also very relevant to today's lack of (and expense) of staff. Training patients to do things for themselves will save countless hours of staff and provider time. I have many ideas in this regard. . .let me know if I can be part of a focus group or provider feedback group to help you think this through.
